NFL practice squads are looking a lot different – and a lot older – this year.
To help teams deal with pandemic uncertainty, the NFL expanded practice squads to 16 players and removed all service-time limits. That’s led to teams filling their squads with veteran players instead of the usual rookies and undrafted longshots.
The Niners added veterans like Dion Jordan, Johnathan Cyprien, and Kevin White to their practice squad, while the Cowboys signed 34-year-old cornerback Brandon Carr.
The Eagles made 41-year-old quarterback Josh McCown the oldest practice squad player in history. McCown won’t even join the team in Philly – he’ll stay home in Texas as a “quarantine quarterback” for emergencies.
